Community Coalition Workshop "A Critical look at: The Irving Oil Refinery & Spruce Lake Industrial Park Expansion"
Join your fellow Saint John community members at Haven Music Hall for the first workshop in our Connections Workshop Series. These workshops are designed to teach practical skills, build community solidarity, and empower collective action.
Irving oil refinery’s approval to operate in Saint John is up for review this month. This is an opportunity to take a look at their record of pollution and offer critical feedback to the government of NB. Join local activist Gordon Dalzell in learning how the refinery effects the health of Saint Johners and take collective action through the review process.
Have you seen the “Save Lorneville” signs? Learn more about how residents are organizing to stop the Spruce Lake Industrial Park Expansion. Your neighbors need your help to stop the conversion of marsh and forests in their backyards to sites for heavy industry.
For more information about the Spruce Lake Industrial Park Expansion in Lorneville, please visit the Save Lorneville Facebook and Instagram pages.
Registration is encouraged! Register here.

'Dry' January Movie Series: Dune (1984) LASERDISC SCREENING AND COSTUME CONTEST!
Warm up this January with Haven Music Hall's January movie series featuring a curated list of dry, desert-y, dusty movies!! Free entry, discounts on domestic cans of beer and our cafe menu, and $2 popcorn! This is a VERY special screening of Dune because we will be showing it on laserdisc! Dress in your Arrakis best for the chance to win prizes!
-Thursday Jan 30: Dune (1984) on LASERDISC!!-
In the year 10191, a spice called melange is the most valuable substance known in the universe, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. A royal decree awards Arrakis to Duke Leto Atreides and ousts his bitter enemies, the Harkonnens. However, when the Harkonnens violently seize back their fiefdom, it is up to Paul (Kyle MacLachlan), Leto's son, to lead the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, in a battle for control of the planet and its spice. Based on Frank Herbert's epic novel.
-What the heck is laserdisc actually?!-
The LaserDisc is a home video format and the first commercial optical disc storage medium, initially licensed, sold and marketed as DISCOVISION! The format was capable of offering higher-quality video and audio than its consumer rivals (VHS and Betamax videotape) but LaserDisc never managed to gain widespread use in North America. This Dune laserdisc is being lent to us for the evening from a private collection!
Because of this film's longer run-time and the fact that you need to physically flip the laserdiscs, this screening will include two short intermissions where you can refill your drink and nerd out about niche video formats!
Doors 7:30pm/showtime 8pm
Jan 16: Tremors (1990)
Jan 23: The Mummy (1999)
Jan 30: Dune* (1984)

Robert Burns Mixer & Poetry Night
Don your favourite tartans and come on down to a decidedly loose version of a Burns Night in honour of the iconic Scottish Poet Robert Burns and celebrate his legacy as well as all things Scottish. We’ll have a special selection of Scotch in addition to our usual bar menu, as well as our non-alcoholic options. We’ll be bumping a Scottish playlist including bangers such as the Proclaimers, Jesus and Mary Chain, Belle and Sebastian, Cocteau Twins, Franz Ferdinand, etc! We’ll take two breaks from the tunes and chat for folks to read some poems and texts of their choosing!
Sign up at this form if you’d like to read a Burns poem! This list includes some of the most popular poems to read at a Burns night and this list has like a million more to choose from if you’re looking for a deeper cut! You’re also welcome to read from other beloved Scottish texts; recite the monologue from Trainspotting, get a friend to get up there with you to read your favourite part of MacBeth, Wickerman, or Highlander! Do your best dramatic reading of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)! If you have an original piece you’ve composed about the Scottish experience or land, you’re welcome to perform that as well! Readers will receive a complimentary drink of their choosing!

The Feeble Strength is on a mission to keep the songs of The Weakerthans ringing out in dive bars and old derelict haunts all across Canada.
Made up of four pals with a genuine love and fascination for the music of Canada’s most earnest and literate indie rock group, Cailen Alcorn Pygott (No, It’s Fine), Nicholas Laugher (Ocean Charter Of Values), Alaska McMillan (Alaska D’Alifax) and Evan Matthews (Devarrow) joined forces in 2017 for a Holiday tribute show, and have been serenading sweet souls with the music of The Weakerthans since!
With lyrics about love, loss, cats, and pennies for the GST, the Weakerthans captured our hearts and compelled us to scream our throats raw along to the songs for years, and we endeavour to keep that wonderful spirit alive as long as we can.

All Ages Show Details
This is a wet/dry show, meaning both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are served. All patrons will be ID'd upon entry and given a coloured bracelet corresponding with their ticket type (19+ or -19). Bartenders will also be checking IDs at the bar. During all ages shows we are careful not to serve multiple drinks to one person, so if you're buying your 19+ friend a beer please bring them to the bar to order with you! All ages are welcome but only 19+ patrons with ID's may purchase alcohol. Patrons aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a guardian.
