Scions/DenMother
Come out to Haven Music Hall on November 22 for this transportive and beautiful evening featuring SCIONS and DENMOTHER! All ages, advance tickets $18, $20 at the door.
Doors 7pm/show 8pm
Scions features members from the award-winning minimalist chamber-jazz quartet New Hermitage, the Polaris-nominated drone-hymn duo Joyful Joyful, and the acclaimed producer and composer Michael Cloud Duguay. Their collaboration began at the Sappyfest music festival in Sackville, New Brunswick, in August 2022. During this event, New Hermitage and Joyful Joyful connected for the first time and teamed up with Duguay for an improvisational performance based on his songwriting. The enthusiastic response, capped by a standing ovation, solidified the ensemble's decision to pursue the project further, with Duguay deftly shifting from front-person to producer and musical director.
DenMother is the electronic music project of Canadian singer-songwriter Sabarah Pilon. Incorporating lush, atmospheric vocal elements over layers of drums and synths, DenMother’s sound can be described as the ethereal converging with the feral.

Connections: Community Conversation Panel Series
Join your fellow Saint John community members at Haven Music Hall for candid conversations about the social, political and cultural systems that affect us. Society is divided between the few who dominate and the many who are dominated. This division is the product of the core structures that define our society (i.e., systems of oppression). A team of panelists will explore ideas around these systems of oppression and connect them to basic needs, gender, race, and environmental issues. Questions and participation from the audience is strongly encouraged.
Inclusivity and accessibility are our top priorities. If you'd like more information about Haven Music Hall please email hello@havenmusichall.com or visit www.havenmusichall.com. DahL (Montréal)
https://dahlband.bandcamp.com/album/thats-it
DahL is an experimental pop outfit based in Montreal who combine elements of 90's trip hop, post-punk, and art rock. The founding members, Bryan and Nassir are originally from Calgary, Alberta and have collaborated on music, writing, and videos for over a decade. DahL’s music creates a foundation of syncopated rhythm and sonic texture to form fluid structures that find their cadence through space, patience, and story. Liselle’s captivating lyrics suggest settings that are often urban and self-reflective in its social commentary. DahL brings an unapologetic energy that perfectly catches the listener off guard with a live performance that engages a sense of playfulness and cynicism, encouraging the carefree moment.
2024 has seen DahL release their first full-length album “That’s It” as well as perform at Fredericton’s Shivering Songs, Montreal's Taverne Tour, No Signal Fest, and Ottawa's Side by Side Weekend.
Shriven (Fredericton)
https://shriven.bandcamp.com/album/saints-rest
Shriven is NB's newest rock band made by Carter Boyle, Blake Creamer, and Charles Harding. Somber songs for friends and foes of Cellarghost, a similar sounding outfit with similar members from the days of old. Shriven is set to release their first single on Nov. 1, 2024!

Yoo Doo Right/Ky
Experimental rock trio Yoo Doo Right (Montréal, CA) wed noisy, melodic guitar parts, effects-laden synthesizer soundscapes, deep bass grooves and patented percussive furies into sprawling, cathartic musical pieces. Drawing inspiration from post-rock, krautrock, shoegaze, classical music, electroacoustics, and musique concrète, they create a unique sound where “towering monoliths of roaring riffs crash against swarms of restless rhythms” (Pop Matters). Since 2016, they have released two full-lengths (Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose, A Murmur, Boundless to the East), three EPs (Nobody Panicked and Everybody Got On, EP2, The Sacred Fuck EP), and a few singles, including a 7” split with Acid Mothers Temple, whilst touring extensively in Canada, the United and Europe. Along the way, they have performed at notorious events such as SXSW, Levitation, Dunk! Fest, Sled Island, Treefort Music Fest, and M for Montreal, also opening for the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS, and Jessica. Scheduled for November 8th, 2024 via Mothland, From the Heights of Our Pastureland is yet another solemn if defiant entry in Yoo Doo Right’s rich music catalogue, an honest and patient sonic poem about the destructive process of unbridled expansion in the name of "progress", the inevitable collapse and what it means to rebuild.
Ky is the new “solo” project of Ky Brooks, best known as vocalist and lyricist of noise-punk trio Lungbutter and a slew of other Montréal-based out-music projects like 8-person queer punk band Femmaggots and experimental/improv trio Nag. Their 2023 debut, Power Is The Pharmacy, is an album of cerebral and visceral outsider artpunk “mainly about grief, death, the fear of loss, losing dreams, losing youth, people, public space, ultimately oneself”—an emotionally electrifying, genre-spanning collection of songs fuelled by Ky’s piercing poetry, both spoken and sung, that delivers an acute blend of incisive socio-political observation and spiritual sadness, swirling through vortices of disenchantment and re-enchantment.

Please contact the event organisers in advance at ConnectionsSJ@proton.me for any requests or inquiries about the panel series.

Center for Youth Care Presents: Forum on Youth Housing and Homelessness
Hosted by the Center For Youth Care, this panel is to raise awareness about youth homelessness in our region.
It's time to talk about youth housing and homelessness. Too many young people in our region are facing challenges without a safe place to call home. By focusing on solutions, we can create lasting change and create resilient communities.
This is why our upcoming forum on youth housing and homelessness is so important. It’s a space for community leaders, advocates, and youth themselves to share ideas and turn those solutions into action.
Together, we can give youth the stability they need to build their futures. Let’s break the cycle of homelessness and open doors to opportunity.
Space is limited, so please register today and ensure you are a part of this critical conversation. Registration can be accessed for free, but if you are able please consider making a donation to support youth in your region. To access this event for free, please select a ticket and use discount code NOFEETICKET on the information form. Select "CHECK" after entering the discount code. The aim of this forum is to raise awareness and share insights to address youth homelessness. Individuals with lived experience are invited to use the discount code to attend without making a donation.

Valmy & Catherine Kennedy
If you love moving vocalists and skilled instrumentalism, this evening with Valmy and Catherine Kennedy is not to be missed!! All ages, $15 adv/$20 at the door. Doors 7:30, show 8pm!
Valmy is Newfoundland-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark., Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing.
This is demonstrated through her debut full-length album ‘The In Between’, independently released in September 2023 and warmly received by listeners, with a thoughtful review by Tony Ploughman of Fred’s Records: “The rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quilt…There is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing one’s own mental state in harmony with nature, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. And the underlying intensity to follow through on the beckoning of one’s thoughts and emotions to create is constant…Deftly produced, engineered and mixed, “The In Between” is one of 2023’s finest NL Releases”.
Listen to Valmy's The Inbetween here!
Award-winning singer-songwriter Catherine Kennedy invites you to join her on the long way home. Any story worth telling deserves the time it takes to travel along the nostalgic route, and Catherine’s soulful lyrics and bluesy tones will transport you directly there.
One music-lover praised how “the beautiful quality and range of Catherine’s voice pairs perfectly with her gift of storytelling. Catherine's music makes you feel part of something bigger. Her songs always seem as though they're written for you.”
Following hot on the heel's of Catherine Kennedy's Harvest Jazz and Blues performance (with McKinley, Morrison & Williams) opening for the legendary Victor Wooten & the Wooten Brothers, come out to hear her on the Haven Music Hall stage!
Listen to the Haven staff's personal favourite track from Catherine Kennedy; 'the Cloth You're Made Of" here!

Jon McKiel/Dusted
All ages show featuring the amazing Jon McKiel, Dusted (Brian Borcherdt of Holy Fuck). All ages, $15 advance $20 at the door.
Doors 8pm/Show 9pm
Jon Mckiel returns with a highly anticipated new album, the long-awaited follow-up to his underground classic Bobby Joe Hope!
The songs of Jon McKiel are born of the bruised marshlands of remote New Brunswick, from the craggy shores of the Atlantic coast; places where nature is a powerful wonder and the made-world is in slow decay. His new album, Hex, is a bloodshot pop record steeped in our dystopian present, tempered, across its ten tracks, by an existential umami.
Listen to Jon McKeil's 2024 release Hex here!
Brian Borcherdt aka Dusted is best known as founding member of the Polaris Prize-shortlisted electro-experimental band Holy Fuck.
This project serves as a vehicle for more traditional songwriting, although the sound retains many of the experimental elements he’s become known for. Dusted III offers a meditation on change and rebirth that all of us can relate to at this moment.
Listen to/purchase Brian Bordcherdt's project Dusted!

MOTHERHOOD
A trio of deep-thinkin’ rippers, New Brunswick’s Motherhood achieve one very rare and uncomplicated feat: they sound EXCITING on record and stage alike. Motherhood’s music explodes with the kind of charm and exuberance you can’t just order. No, it’d take years of late nite couch-crumpled conversations, bathroom stall barfs and parking lot laughter to achieve the kind of chemistry these three exude. If we’re calling this art rock, it’s because commitment is a precious art indeed. And make no mistake, Motherhood is all about commitment.

Single Mothers/Birds in Row/Botfly
Single Mothers was started by poet and ex-gold prospector Drew Thomson in London Ontario, Canada around 2008. The band has had a constant revolving door of members and even Thomson has been out of the band at times. At one point, when Thomson was in the Canadian North gold prospecting, there were 2 iterations of Single Mothers going at the same time with totally different members. The band has released 3 albums and a number of EP’s all with different members, but critically acclaimed for Thomson’s lyrical wit and bite. ‘Negative Qualities’ and ‘Through A Wall’ were both nominated for prestigious Juno Awards in their home of Canada. Single Mothers have played all over North America, the UK and Europe with bands like The Bronx, Drug Church, Quicksand, Touche Amore, Title Fight, PUP, Enter Shakari and many many more.
Joined by Nova Scotian darlings Botfly and Quebec’s own Birds in Row!
