Since forming in 2019, Absolute Losers have earned a reputation for their air-tight live shows that deliver one burst of energy after the next. In August of 2023, they released their debut album, “At The Mall,” a danceable 12-track offering that confronts hardships without taking itself too seriously. On their debut, the band camouflages pop sensibilities with wiry guitar work, intertwining bass and drum parts, and hook-laden, nonchalant vocals. In their latest efforts, Absolute Losers shed the camouflage and proudly bear their knack for catchy melodies, soaring harmonies, and straight-to-point pop songwriting.

Shaped by the aesthetic sensibilities of vintage UK/New Zealand indie pop, Montreal’s Prism Shores blend the genre’s jangling guitars and deliberate melodies with traces of shoegaze, dream pop, and post-punk, refracting their influences through a lens distinctly their own. Their sophomore album is due out in January 2025.

Born out of postcards and long distance phone calls between friends, Townie's trio of songwriters collaborates with a prolific group of musicians across the country, featuring three insightful and unique voices, they draw influence from folk revival with a DIY ethos.

Since 2008, Owen Steel has written and released various folk / garage sounds under his own name, as well as with such acts as The Belle Comedians, Mike Trask, Dana Sipos, and Motherhood. He has toured from Newfoundland to the Yukon, Texas to Sweden and points in between, appearing at folk festivals, freak festivals, basement bars, soft seaters, pizza joints and more; By thumb, boat, band van and train, Steel has made his way under the radar and into the ears of a small but mighty group of listeners.

Dillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic

"Dillon Ryan & the Dream Romantic are a new wave band from the East Coast of Canada based out of Moncton/Miramichi NB. The band is authentically breathing new life into the underexplored genres of new wave, goth and post punk. Their inspiration from the Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen and the Cure is marvelously palpable in their material yet their work remains completely fresh. Their hauntingly melodic landscapes swallow you into a cinematic gothic universe. It’s soothing yet scary and you just can't get enough. Dillon Ryan & The Dream Romantic weave melodic lullabies and gothic ballads that cling to listeners. Their poetic songwriting paired with a beautifully melancholic sonic landscape is an enthralling void to lose yourself to. In a world oversaturated with pathological positivity it’s exciting to hear such an emotionally generous band. Their music somehow makes you want to dance and cry at the same time, it’s a rare and honest dichotomy. The band is a 4 time Music New Brunswick award nominee and winner of the 2017 "Fans Choice Award".  Ryan has released 3 albums to date and is currently touring in support of the newest album "In Polaroid" which was produced by John Mullane (In-Flight Safety)

Lazermortis

Lazermortis is a full time funeral director and embalmer by day and an 80’s inspired synthwave/outrun artist by night. Hailing from Atlantic Canada, Lazer released her debut album Backseat Demons on June 30, 2020, which has achieved over 70K streams on Spotify with her standout track Below The Sunrise! Her latest EP, Autonetic Afterlife is a marriage between her career and her passion for synthwave, exploring how artificial intelligence might perceive death and the afterlifet.

The Gregories

The Gregories are quartet of musicians based in Moncton, New Brunswick. They play strange pop, art rock, and disquieting love songs. While their music evokes an era that straddles the 1970’s and 80’s, it is still thoroughly contemporary and defies nostalgia. Often humorous and dream-like , David Gregory’s lyrics probe the absurdities of being human. Their first record “The Offal Truth” was released in the autumn of 2018. It was recorded, mixed and produced by Pierre-Guy Blanchard who is best known for his work with Les Hay Babies, Lisa LeBlanc and Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire. Currently promoting their current record "Tonights The Day" .

Nico Paulo is a Portuguese/Canadian songwriter, performer, and visual artist. She moved to Canada in 2014 to pursue her career, originally setting down roots in the vibrant Toronto arts community, and eventually moved east to become an essential part of Newfoundland’s celebrated music scene. Paulo’s highly anticipated, self-titled debut LP, which arrived in spring 2023, is a melodically dynamic, heart-baring collection that finds her exploring the interconnected nature of relationships and the flow of time in lush, sophisticated pop arrangements. The album’s textures come courtesy of production by Joshua Van Tassel (Villages, Fortunate Ones) and Tim Baker (Hey Rosetta!).

Paulo released her debut single, the wistful “Please Don’t Forget,” in 2019. Her debut EP, Wave Call, arrived in 2020, featuring contributions from musicians Bravo Kilo, Evan J Cartwright, Kwame Appiah-Kubi, and Tim Baker, with production and engineering handled by David Gavan Baxter. She toured the EP in Europe in 2020, making stops in Portugal, the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany. Her latest releases—the Live at First Light EP recorded for the Lawnya Vawnya Artist Residency and a cover of José Afonso’s Portuguese folk song "O Cavaleiro e o Anjo"—were both recorded in Paulo’s adopted hometown of St. John’s, and include appearances by local musicians Tim Baker, Adam Hogan, Steve Maloney, and Mary B. Waldram.

Len O’Neill, a singer-songwriter from St. John’s, Newfoundland, began his musical journey in the local pub and bar scene, drawing inspiration from Canadian indie rock pioneers like Wintersleep and Hey Rosetta. As the frontman of the award-winning band Green & Gold, he navigated numerous east coast tours and released two albums before shifting his focus to roots and acoustic music during his time at Fred’s Records. Influenced by a diverse range of artists spanning classic rock legends to poetic songwriters, Len crafts introspective, lyric-driven compositions exploring themes of ambition, sorrow, and personal growth.

His upcoming solo album, "Out Of View," slated for release in April 2024, showcases a dynamic evolution in his sound, marked by poignant storytelling and vulnerability. Len’s musical journey is deeply intertwined with the vibrant music community of St. John’s, where the intrinsic value of music is revered. With a vision to tour extensively and create a body of work reflective of his poetic sensibilities, Len remains committed to expressing his evolving narrative through music, always eager to engage with captivating stories across various artistic mediums.

Pillow Fite is an emerging queer alt-folk duo from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Pairing tender, heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics with catchy alt-rock instrumentals and folky ballads, the genre lines get blurred in a way that keeps the project dynamic and binge-worthy while giving listeners all of the feels. Pillow Fite consists of singer-songwriter Art Ross (they/them) and guitarist Aaron Green (he/him). As a trans non-binary fronted band, Pillow Fite strive to represent queer experiences both on and off stage, and work hard to perform in safe and inclusive spaces.

@roseyslittlemelodies is a psychedelic pop project started by Evie Robinson-Dyck. Focused on warm, soft, vibey sounds with impactful lyrism and unique synthesizers, Roseys Little Melodies focuses on creating an experience that feels authentically human.

@scout.mouse or Ryan Paul, is a self-described “eclectic indie” artist. He currently plays in the band honey wine and is working on scout mouse as a solo project. Ryan is known in the community for performing at open mics and at one point in time: co-hosting a queer youth music circle.

@sadepaigemusic has so many stories to tell and only an acoustic guitar to make sense of it. This young singer-songwriter lives to fire up venues with his interactive retelling of the queer teenage experience. This music, created in and for ‘quiet bedrooms with loud thoughts’, is made to connect with the strange, the awkward, and for the inner teen who is still trying to find their zest for life.

Moe Mustache is a local fella who hails from the bustling metropolis of Sussex. He's a small-town hero making a name for himself in the exciting world of Saint John. Moe's dance moves may be lacking, but boy does he have charm.

Loveover/Book Buddies/Straight On Til' Morning

Loveover

Hailing from Saint John, NB, Loveover has been together since 2015. They have been developing their sound over the years while working on other projects, and they released their debut EP, "Worse Than Before," in May 2022. Their main goal is to provide listeners with the same experience they have when playing—fun, upbeat, and a little bit emo. Although they’ve transitioned through different styles, they remain light-hearted pop-punk, and their live performance engages the crowd with contagious energy.

Book Buddies

Halifax's Book Buddies packs a punch with their melodic pop-rock instrumentation and powerful lyricism. Their most recent EP, "Sean," released in February 2024, has received high praise from their fans across Canada.

Crying Shames are a punk band based in Saint John, New Brunswick. Originally founded in 2004, they quickly established a reputation within the scene as a noisy band with terrible attitudes and an inappropriate amount of confidence. Repeatedly blacklisted by venues in 2007 due to their onstage antics, the band soon after disbanded due to infighting. Sixteen years later, Crying Shames have reunited with the addition of bassist Gavin Downes. They are heavily influenced by post-punk groups such as Gang of Four, DC hardcore bands (Nation of Ulysses), early 2000’s post-hardcore bands (Black Eyes), and 90’s alternative bands (Pixies).

Sheik is a shoegaze inspired band from Saint John, NB, that blends lush reverb soaked ambience with dream pop and alternative rock. Drawing influences from 90s alternative and too many UK groups to name, Sheik brings forth their atmospheric style in a modern way.

Hailing from various parts of New Brunswick, Poets and Liars. Each member of this talented group have taken the best of all of their years of experienced and combined it into this dynamic rock trio. Kendra’s incredibly powerful vocals, life reflecting lyrics and no nonsense guitar riffs lead the way with Warren’s dynamic, groove based drumming that keeps you moving while Kortni ties it all together with her tasty low end on the bass while adding to the vocals with her own incredible range of rock harmonies. This “Monster Rock” trio is hotter than a pair of pleather pants on a sunny southern New Brunswick day

Six Gun Smoke hail from the banks of the mighty Miramichi River. This outlaw punk trio have often been compared to the soundscape of what it's like to be inside a Quentin Tarantino film. Their edgy and energetic sound earned them a nomination for Loud Recording of the year at the 2022 ECMAs!
Grab your posse and your whiskey and get ready!

Too Bad Jim is the sexy, musical side hustle for Matt Carr (The Tortoise, The Hare & The Millionaire, Waylon Napadogan) and Ryan Barrie (Kylie Fox, Waylon Napadogan, Wicked Vices). Imagine hearing the Black Keys through an overdriven subwoofer from the backseat of a ‘76 Chevy Nova. It is a sound which is both classic n’ greasy…but like, real greasy.

Tattoos & Brews

Come on out to Haven Music Hall on Saturday March 23 for a chill and fun Tattoos & Brews event! We are so excited to welcome tattoo artist Kass and musician Charles Hardling to Haven for this unique and fun evening!

Kass is a queer spiritual tattoo artist of 5 years, and currently owns and operates Resilience Tattoo. Her objective is to create mindfully made tattoos in a cultivated safe space.

This evening will include soundscapes and ambiences from the collections of sound artist Charles Harding. Drawing from field recordings of outside sound in Saint John, Montréal, a little island in Finland, as well as synth tones, chill beats, and drones, he will stage an amply relaxing environment to engage in both tattoos and brews alike. The performance stills will include sampling, modular synth, and live coding. Between performances there will be a curated playlist of ambiences and beats from amazing artists around the world.

Event is from 4pm-10pm, first come first serve for tattoos! If you’d like to get tattooed, the tattoo artist’s apprentice will take your information and add you to the appointment schedule. Those who aren't getting tattooed are welcome to hang out and listen to the tunes!

Kass has an overflow day of Sunday March 24, which will be at the Resilience Tattoo Studio. Kass will be primarily focused on doing pre-drawn tattoos. Current flash sheets will be available to choose from, as well as limited availability/consideration for 3-4 inch customs. Payments for tattoos are made directly to the artist, and the music is PWYC/NTAFLOF.

Tattoos & Brews safety notes:

- 2 beer limit pre tattoo (apprentice will be checking with the bar staff)

- no recreational drugs in system.

- The artist reserves the right to refuse anyone who they suspect may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

- Post tattoo alcohol consumption is not recommended, however those who partake are recommended to increase their water intake!

Please refer to @needleandquil and/or @resiliencetattoosj for more information and the upcoming flash drop from tattoo artist Kass on Monday March 18!

Rock Doc Movie Nite Series: Dig! (2004)

🤙ROCK DOC SERIES ANNOUNCEMENT🤙 Come on down to Haven Music Hall on Thursday March 14 for the first instalment of our Rock Doc series, kicking things off with the 2004 documentary Dig!

All ages, free entry, movie starts 7pm. There will be drink and popcorn specials, come get cozy with the music nerd in your life!!

Dig! (2004): After the alternative music boom of the early 1990s, two bands choose very different paths to fame. Portland, Oregon’s the Dandy Warhols, led by the self-conscious and career-minded Courtney Taylor-Taylor, sign with a major label and score a radio hit. San Francisco’s Brian Jonestown Massacre, fronted by the abrasive and unpredictable Anton Newcombe, seemingly go out of their way to impede their own rise to fame with a series of increasingly bizarre incidents, including onstage fistfights.

Note: this doc is rated R for “language and drug use”, so please keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to attend! Folks aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a guardian.
